Cattle on a Thousand Hills
Cattle on a Thousand Hills
by Sanyika Calloway Boyce, The Financial Fitness Coach
The word of God says in Luke 1:37, “For nothing is impossible with God.” And this is true.
God tells us that because He is our:
• King
• Ruler
• Savior
• Father
• Creator
That He is in total control of and over everything in this world – including our finances.
The Biblical reference to God owning the “cattle on a thousand hills” may seem to have very little meaning to us now, but He used that expression to remind the people of Israel and us today that He is an awesome God with unlimited resources and power, unlimited wealth, and unlimited love for those who love His Son, Jesus and there is nothing that is out of reach or possibility for Him.
I am amazed that there are so many relevant lessons from the Word of God for us today; it’s a testament to the fact that it is a living account of who God designed us to be and who He is.
In our own strength, even in our best efforts we fall short sometimes, but when we align our will with the will of our Father all things are possible.
I am convinced that when we look at the condition of this world, our government, our society, our personal challenges or even our bills, for many of us the reaction is: “This is impossible! I don’t have enough – energy, resources, strength, know-how, money… whatever – to do it all.
And you know what? It’s true.
On our own we can do nothing. Independent of the aid of our Creator it is impossible and as long as we believe that we have to try to do anything in our own strength or power it will remain impossible.
But as the popular Christian song says, “When I call on Jesus all things are possible, I can mount on wings of eagles and soar.”
Recently this awareness became profoundly real for me when I found myself facing a looming deadline on a substantial expense that needed to be paid. Despite my best efforts to cover the expense I could not. I had exhausted all of my options – but one.
Unsuccessfully, I tried to solve the problem in the time I had remaining but even my best efforts were met with no tangible results and the frustration was crushing to my pride with each failed attempt. How could, I “The Financial Fitness Coach” be unable to tackle this?
Ah, but alas my faithful Father used this humbling experience to teach me that regardless of what persona I assume, or what the world might call me; He knows my name and created me. It is He who has given me the ability to do all that I have been allowed to do. This life of mine is divinely designed and it is from His hand which all things come.
He owns the cattle and the hills and nothing is out of His realm of possibility.
I had lost sight of who was truly in control of things. I am grateful that when this happens – and it does from time to time. God faithfully (and sometimes uncomfortably) reminds me in who I am to put my trust and bring all of my cares to.
The more you and I believe and trust that God is faithful, that God has unlimited resources and love to meet all our needs in every circumstance, the more we will be willing to let go of the pride, money and other resources that are often held so tightly by us, and look to the hills on which the cattle that God owns graze.
Nothing is impossible with God. He is our ever present help and the answer to our need in every situation financial – or otherwise.
